While the World Health Organisation has advised that there is no evidence to date that the COVID-19 virus has been transmitted via sewerage systems with or without wastewater treatment, there are still a number of ways that the water industry can assist with managing the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Centre is undertaking a number of projects that deal with COVID-19, including outbreak tracking through wastewater monitoring, microbial profiling, efficient disinfection, and the impacts of the virus on global environmental losses and gains.
