The Advanced Water Management Centre is pleased to announce the promotion of Dr Jianhua Guo to the position of Deputy Director – Research.

Dr Guo is committed to maintaining a strong connection with industry partners to enhance translation of research outcomes, and to create change for a secure water future.

“Our continuing ambition is to maintain and stimulate our world-class research in water management,” he said.

“We will continue to champion and empower early-mid career researchers with brilliant career opportunities, and provide excellent learning experience for the Centre’s postgraduates.”

Dr Jianhua Guo has been with the AWMC since 2013, where he joined as a DECRA Fellow working on autotrophic nitrogen removal project.

His research focuses on effective integration of process engineering, environmental microbiology and environmental biotechnology to develop innovative and sustainable technological solutions to achieve high-levels of nutrient removal from wastewater.

He is also an active researcher in the environmental dimension of antibiotic resistance, an area of increasing concern in urban water management.

Very recently, Dr Guo and the team found that non-antibiotic pharmaceuticals can promote the spread of antibiotic resistance.

These findings have attracted media coverage by more than 50 different press releases, including ABC News, The Daily Mail, Science Daily and The Courier-Mail.

Dr Guo has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers to date and was awarded an ARC Future Fellowship in 2017.
