 Consulting and Contract R&D

As an internationally recognized technology leader, the AWMC is actively involved in domestic and industrial water recycling and wastewater projects. We will generally prioritise consulting work and contract R&D within our areas of expertise, which include high-strength nutrient removal, industrial wastewaters, solids handling, and process modelling. Services that we provide include expert reviews, process simulation and analysis, conceptual designs and design reviews of greenfield processes, and industrial R&D. The following are examples of typical assignments:
  • Melbourne Water - Western Treatment Plant (WTP) Pond Modelling - A joint project with GHD Melbourne was conducted to review the Melbourne Western Treatment Plant system. The AWMC service included process and hydraulic modelling of the pond system to identify key hydraulic characteristics (degree of mixing, and effective volume) without the use of lithium tracer. By doing this, it was possible to compare the WTP ponds against worldwide benchmarks.
  • Brisbane Water - Oxley Creek Advisory Team - Brisbane Water is currently completing a major treatment plant upgrade at Oxley Creek, including a thermal hydrolysis sludge treatment train. As part of an on-going consultant relationship, the AWMC has fully modelled the Oxley Creek digester system to demonstrate improvements, and provide independent benchmarks of performance. This is vital, as the traditional performance measures (e.g., van Kleeck destruction) have been difficult to use, due to dynamic operation.
Assignments are usually coordinated by one of our senior academic staff. For further information please contact:
