AWMC Seminar Program: QUEENSLAND URBAN UTILITIES ALGAE BASED RESEARCH PROGRAM

Presented by Dr Andrew Ward

Queensland Urban Utilities (QUU) is committed to pursuing environmentally sustainable treatment practices. One of QUU’s goals is to achieve service excellence in the field of energy consumption by decreasing operational energy consumption and becoming carbon neutral as they move into the future. Microalgae can play a pivotal role in helping Queensland Urban Utilities reach this goal. Microalgae have a proven scientific record of accomplishment in its ability to remediate nutrients whilst sequestering CO2 from the atmosphere whilst simultaneously producing valuable products from biomass.

Approximately 18 months ago, QUU implemented a microalgae research program to investigate opportunities that utilise microalgae for remediation and biomass production. This initial research program clearly established four key research focus areas for the application of algae based treatment. This presentation will detail the four research focus areas and the application and integration into QUU operational processes.

AWMC hosts a free seminar every Friday from 9am.
