AWMC Seminar Program: New Developments in Enhanced Biological Phosphorus Removal

Dr Adrien Oehmen

Abstract: In the last years there have been a number of new developments associated with the enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) process, which have focussed on innovative applications of EBPR, new knowledge surrounding the metabolism of key microorganisms and advances in our ability to model EBPR systems. This presentation will provide an overview of research focussed on these areas, particularly EBPR associated with the sulphur cycle in saline wastewater treatment systems, phototrophic EBPR based on dark/light cycles rather than anaerobic/aerobic cycles, the microbial diversity of polyphosphate accumulating organisms and their different metabolic traits and a new metabolic/ASM model to describe EBPR processes under a wider range of operational conditions. This presentation also aims to promote discussion regarding future opportunities in the area of EBPR.

AWMC hosts a free seminar every Friday at 9am in the AIBN Seminar Room.
