Dynamic Modelling of Rotating Belt Filters for Primary Wastewater Treatment 
 
Abstract: Rotating belt filters (RBFs) are a compact wastewater treatment technology that separates solids from wastewater using a continuously moving mesh filter. Prediction of RBF performance is challenging due to the complex interaction between hydrodynamics and the solids removal process. This talk describes recent efforts to simulate RBF performance using a mass-based distributed parameter model and coupling with a computational fluid dynamics code.
 
Bio: Chris DeGroot is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering at the University of Western Ontario in London, Canada. His primary research area is computational fluid dynamics (CFD), including applications in the wastewater treatment industry. Previously, he was a research scientist at Trojan Technologies and a CFD software developer at ANSYS Inc.
